Induced seismicity - a global phenomenon with special relevance to the Dutch subsurface

Induced seismicity is gaining increased interest worldwide. Though smaller in magnitude than natural earthquakes, induced seismic events can have large consequences. One of those consequences is the production stop of the largest onshore gas field in the Netherlands in 2022, the Groningen field, 10 years after the Huizinge induced seismic event in 2012. The papers in this collection further investigate the multiple geological and geophysical aspects of induced seismicity, not only in the Groningen area but also in other places in the Netherlands.
