About the Journal
Scope
Netherlands Journal of Geosciences (NJG) is a fully open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes new and significant research in the geosciences, with a regional focus on the Netherlands, including the Dutch offshore and the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. The journal also welcomes studies of adjacent areas and other regions that are relevant to the understanding of the geology of the Netherlands. NJG covers a wide range of topics, including geology, physical geography, geophysics, geo-archaeology, palaeontology, hydrogeology, exploration, mapping, modelling, and visualisation.
Publisher
NJG is published on behalf of the Royal Geological and Mining Society of the Netherlands (KNGMG) and TNO - Geological Survey of the Netherlands. It is a continuation of Geologie en Mijnbouw (published by KNGMG), Mededelingen Nederlands Instituut voor Toegepaste Geowetenschappen (published by TNO), and preceding journals of the Dutch geological survey dating back to 1908. NJG is published in full colour.
Sections
Author contributions are handled in three formats, which are selected when submitting the manuscript:
- Regular papers constitute the bulk of NJG's content. They preferably do not exceed eight printed pages, corresponding roughly to 6,000 words (depending on layout, figures, and tables).
- Geo(im)pulses are fast-tracked papers that report innovative and timely research or breakthrough results. They do not exceed four printed pages and contain at most two figures and/or tables.
- Geoperspectives are invited review papers that either provide a geoscientific viewpoint on societal issues or present a classical scholarly review summarising, analysing, and synthesising existing research on a particular topic.
Contributions made by the editorial team:
- Introductions serve to conclude special collections by introducing and summarising the contributing papers. They are written by, or at the request of, the (guest) editors.
- Editorials serve to communicate journal news and milestones, such as changes in the editorial team or journal scope, notable contributions, or the NJG Publication Award. They are written by, or at the request of, the Editor-in-Chief.
Notices used to communicate issues with published papers:
- Erratum: A formal notice correcting an error introduced by the publisher in a published article that affects its accuracy or clarity but does not alter the main conclusions. It is submitted by the journal editor.
- Corrigendum: A formal notice correcting an error made by the authors in a published article that affects its accuracy or clarity but does not alter the main conclusions. It is submitted by the authors and published with the editor’s approval.
- Retraction: A formal notice indicating that a published article is withdrawn from the scientific record because errors, misconduct, or other issues render its results or conclusions unreliable. It is issued by the editor, usually in consultation with the authors.
